Emotions help us to cope with the changes and hardships that life can bring. Sometimes, however, things do get on top of us and we speak of being "emotionally disturbed". At times when stress lasts longer and is beyond our tolerance, we find ourselves vulnerable to emotional and physical exhaustion. The most important areas of our lives that can cause stress are work, finances, marital relations and our family, although all sorts of events and situations can put us under pressure. Prolonged stress has been implicated in diseases of both the body and mind, signifying importance of emotional wellness.
